Discretix and Opera Software today announced a partnership to bring secure OTT HD content and services to connected TVs.  The integrated Opera – Discretix solution utilizes HTML5 to dramatically reduce the effort needed to support services across multiple home entertainment devices. The fully-tested solution will directly benefit TV and Set-Top-Box (STB) OEMs by expediting their path to market.

The Opera Devices Software Development Kit (SDK) and Opera TV browser bring the full web-browsing experience to connected TVs. The solution enables OEMs to build HTML5 and CE-HTML rendering, together with adaptive streaming and HbbTV capabilities, into their devices.

Discretix Content Protection portfolio includes the latest version of Microsoft® PlayReady® DRM and HDCP 2 link protection. The solution ensures robust security for premium HD video by utilizing a hardware-assisted implementation, and provides support for both HTML5 and MPEG-DASH multimedia standards. The solution provides powerful content protection measures that allow service providers and content owners to deliver their premium content and applications, securely, over regular internet (OTT), directly to home entertainment devices.

“Having identified content protection as a critical requirement for our STB and TV OEMs, it is important to work with partners like Discretix who can help bring a fully integrated solution to market,” said Aneesh Rajaram, Senior Vice-President for TV & Devices, Opera Software. “With a field-proven and impressive product portfolio, Discretix’ contribution is essential to ensure robust and rapidly deployable solutions.” “Many of the leading application developers and service providers – YouTube among them – are utilizing HTML5 and mandate content protection,” said Yossi Hermush, VP Marketing – Content Protection, Discretix. “Our collaboration with Opera’s leading browser platform will assist OEMs to be ready faster, with a fully integrated solution supporting even the most advanced services.”
