Graphcore makes computing systems that dramatically accelerate artificial intelligence, including its Intelligence Processing Unit (IPU) – the most complex microprocessor even built. The company was founded in 2016, to give innovators a built-for-AI computing technology that would dramatically out-perform legacy processors - including GPUs – previously used for Machine Intelligence. Graphcore's systems are used in financial services, healthcare, consumer internet, scientific research and many other fields. They also form part of Microsoft’s Azure cloud computing platform. Notable investors include Pitango Venture Capital, Sequoia Capital, BMW iVentures, Microsoft, Samsung, and Deepmind co-founder Demis Hassabis.
